Inside Our Model

Built to Deliver Returns.

Every adult and every business in America must file taxes — and roughly 60% of Hispanic taxpayers prefer to do it in person, in their language.[1] Here is the model entrepreneurs are adding to their portfolio. Flip each card for the detail.

Family & Future

Bring financial literacy to the kitchen table.

You don’t have to be the tax expert — but raise a family around an ATAX office and your kids absorb taxes, business, and ownership the way other kids absorb slang. That conversation, every night for twenty years, is the inheritance.

The Revenue Model

One client. Four year-round revenue streams.

Revenue every month of the year — not just January through April. Four distinct service lines give franchisees the opportunity to earn beyond tax season.[1]

01 Jan–Apr peak

Tax Preparation

Personal & business returns, ITIN applications, amended returns, IRS audit support.

Why clients stay

Every adult must file. Bilingual trust drives 80%+ year-over-year retention.

02 Monthly recurring

Bookkeeping

Monthly bookkeeping retainers for small-business clients — the foundation of year-round cash flow.

Why clients stay

Tax filing is once a year. Bookkeeping is 12 invoices per client, every year.

03 Weekly & biweekly

Payroll

Weekly or biweekly payroll runs, tax filings, and W-2 / 1099 prep for small-business clients.

Why clients stay

Switching costs are high once payroll is integrated — the stickiest service in the practice.

04 One-time + renewals

Incorporation & Compliance

LLC formation, EIN setup, S-corp election, BOI / CTA filings, annual reports.

Why clients stay

The on-ramp to a lifetime of tax + bookkeeping + payroll — new business owners stay for the bundle.

The Year-Round Advantage

Big-box tax brands go dark April 16. ATAX clients on bookkeeping + payroll retainers are paying you in May, August, and November — smoothing seasonality independents can’t escape.

Royalty Structure

14% royalty on gross revenue and 3% brand fund (per 2025 FDD Item 6). First-year minimum royalty caps at $5,000, scaling to $10,000 by year three — ATAX shares the risk of your ramp.

Cross-Sell Compounding

The first sale — a tax return — is the on-ramp. Bookkeeping, payroll, and incorporation services compound lifetime client value over many years per relationship.

12 Months
Year-round operating cadence from grand-opening.[2]
Most franchisees aim to open before the next tax season so the first January peak hits a fully-staffed office.

  1. This page describes the ATAX revenue model conceptually. Refer to the current ATAX Franchise Disclosure Document for the actual Item 19 Financial Performance Representation (if any), Item 5 (franchise fee), Item 6 (royalty & ad fund), and Item 7 (estimated initial investment). The most recent publicly summarized FDD information is from the 2025 filing.
  2. Year-round operating cadence reflects ATAX’s service mix (tax, bookkeeping, payroll, incorporation) as published at atax.com. Time-to-revenue varies by site selection, lease timeline, local permitting, and the franchisee’s onboarding pace.
  3. Royalty & brand-fund structure: 2025 FDD Item 6 — royalty 14% of gross revenues; brand fund 3% of gross revenues; minimum annual royalty $5,000 / $7,500 / $10,000 in years 1, 2, 3+ respectively (50% reduced in Puerto Rico). Past performance does not guarantee future results. Always consult the FDD before signing.

Why Now

A $546 billion market — with the wind at our back.

Owning a tax-services franchise is one of the most logical investments in America right now. Every adult and every business has to file. Tax law is getting more complex. The IRS is hiring at a record pace. Small-business formations are at all-time highs. And the demographic tailwind from the U.S. Latino economy is icing on the cake.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Do I need to be a CPA or have prior tax experience?
No. ATAX is an executive management franchise. You hire bilingual preparers and bookkeepers; the brand, the proprietary software, and the two-week initial training program at HQ in Virginia Beach equip your team to do the work. Whether you’ve never filed a 1040 or you’re a CPA running a solo practice, our onboarding adapts to where you’re starting.
Do I need to speak Spanish to own an ATAX office?
No, but you must commit to running an office where Spanish is spoken at every desk. Most successful franchisees either speak Spanish themselves or partner with a bilingual office manager from Day 1. ATAX provides bilingual marketing assets, software, signage, and a national pipeline of bilingual preparers via the ATAX Tax School.
What does the year-round business actually look like?
January through April is the tax-preparation peak — the loudest revenue spike. May through December is when bookkeeping retainers, payroll cycles, ITIN renewals, amended returns, and small-business incorporations keep your office busy. Big-box brands close most offices in May; ATAX franchisees stay open and earn all twelve months.
Is this semi-absentee or owner-operator?
Both work. Many ATAX franchisees begin as full-time owner-operators in their first season to learn the system end-to-end; multi-office owners almost always run semi-absentee with a bilingual office manager once the second location opens. The model supports either path.
Do you offer financing?
ATAX does not provide direct financing, but we partner with industry-leading third-party funding specialists for SBA loans, 401(k) business funding (ROBS), and equipment financing. Active military and veterans receive a 10% discount on the initial franchise fee.
How does territory protection work?
You receive a protected, exclusive territory based on demographic and competitive analysis — typically anchored on Hispanic population density, small-business count, and existing ATAX presence. Multi-office packages and Area Representative opportunities are available in select markets.
What ongoing support does ATAX provide?
Two weeks of initial training at ATAX HQ, weekly bilingual webinars, one-on-one franchise coaching, marketing assistance, proprietary tax and bookkeeping software, site selection support, and a national peer network. Our leadership team has 400+ years of combined tax-franchise experience.
